childhood
James Bond was born of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix Bond. He was educated in Switzerland and Germany, becoming proficient in French, German, and Italian, due to the fact he spent his early years abroad because of his father's work. At the age of eleven, his parents tragically died while attempting to scale northeast ridge of the Aiguille de la Persévérance. Parentless, Bond was then raised and privately tutored by his aunt and guardian, Charmain Bond of Pett Bottom. He attended the school of Eton at the approximate age of 12 until he was expelled a year later for repeated curfew violations and “trouble” with one of the maids. He was enrolled at Fettes College in Scotland from the age of 13 to 17, where he won numerous athletic competitions by boxing as a lightweight. He also formed the first intramural judo league for the public school circuit. During term breaks at Fettes, Bond took an exchange program under the University of Geneva, where he was taught to ski and climb with Austrian instructor Hannes Oberhauser.
